Bridging the gap between digital technologies and human safety
I am an independent specialist in digital safety. My work helps organisations build products and services that people can use safely and with confidence.
I work in two capacities. As a consultant, I support public sector organisations to transform services for a digital society. I also provide independent expert reviews of digital products and services. As a non-executive, I bring digital safety and digital risk to the boardroom.
1. Consulting
Digital Society Maturity Review for the public sector: planning, designing, delivering and evaluating services that recognise and respond to the needs of a digital society.
Product & Service Reviews for private sector companies designing for users in a digital society: consumer tech, safety tech, edtech, fintech, AI and others. An independent expert reading of your product, identifying gaps and opportunities relating to user safety.
Board-level briefings and keynotes on online safety, AI in products and education, and digital risk governance.
2. Non-Executive roles
Chair, Advisory Committee for Scotland, Ofcom (public appointment; member since 2020).
Member, Advertising Advisory Committee, Advertising Standards Authority (independent appointment).
Previous: Vice Chair and Cyber Risk Lead, Borders College Regional Board (2019–2024).
Background & Research
I combine a long-standing interest in AI (First Class degree in Linguistics and AI, Edinburgh) with business rigour (MBA Distinction, Edinburgh). My work is grounded in independent research, including a quarterly review of 100+ apps, games, devices, AI chatbots, streaming services, social platforms and wearables for a national parenting safety resource. My commitment to safety was recognised with an NSPCC Childhood Champion Award.
All consulting work is undertaken in my independent capacity and does not represent the views of Ofcom or the ASA. I do not lobby or represent clients in their dealings with either body. See Independence & Conflict Policy.
